Easier to install than its copper competitor and less expensive, the PEX pipe is increasingly adopted by households to install their Residential Plumbing Repair network. In place partitions, installation is relatively simple, although tedious. If you feel up to it, here are the main steps to follow.
Which diameter for which equipment?
According to Residential Plumbing Repair, their diameter may vary depending on where they are connected. It is important to check beforehand that the size of your pipes corresponds to the end to which you wish to attach them. Learn all about the different PEX pipe diameters and their meaning.
How to fix the per pipe in the place?
Sensitive to light, which contributes to its alteration, the PER can only be installed by recessing or under formwork. Its installation is generally done by an embedding system when it comes to new construction. In renovation work, we opt instead for a dubbing.
For place walls, it is quite simple to embed the pipes. Indeed, this one is done between the 2 thicknesses of the partition, contrary to the solid walls which require bleeding.
Namely: the PEX tube is relatively easy and quick to install. Nevertheless, its thermal expansion is very high, which requires some precautions during installation.
The main water supply turn off
Next, identify the location of the distribution points (they correspond to the water outlets) as well as the tubular collectors, also called nurses ( what is a nurse? ). The water will circulate from the collectors to the distribution points.
It is easier to make the connection once you have pulled the pipes from the water outlets you have created, and not the other way around. Starting from the water outlets gives you greater freedom of movement.
Prepare the PEX tubing
Consider sheathing the pipes – if they are not already – in such a way as to protect them from possible friction while allowing them to expand freely.
According to Drainage Maintenance Services If your pipes are sheathed, cut one end of the sheath using a cutter without touching the tube, and cut the PER with a tube cutter.
Embed the pipes
Depending on where you have planned a water inlet, locate the exact location of the water outlet on the place partition concerned. At floor level, cut a hatch in the partition. It will allow you to run the pipes from the distribution point to the ground.
If you install a mixer, for example, position the mixer plate on the wall using a spirit level. Then drill the circular cutouts of the plate with a hole saw and the mounting holes with a drill.
Once you have positioned the pipes at the level of the water outlet, pull them through the hatch and add the fittings before fixing them on the partition, at the location of the water inlet ( for example on the plate, in the case of a mixer). Size your turntable according to the fittings you will be using (compression or sliding).
Create a route for the pipes
Then, pull the pipes at ground level, making the shortest route between the distribution point and the collector (the supply to If you have to cross rooms, you will need to provide passages under the place partitions, at the using hatches, to have the straightest possible lines.
Good to know: prefer to run the pipes on the ground rather than horizontally in the walls, because you risk drilling them if you want to fix a piece of furniture to the wall, for example. The insurers would blame you! Only passages in the ground and rising from the ground up to the supplied height of the device or equipment in question are therefore authorized.
Pipe without risking damaging
On the other hand, if you want to make bends at right angles, there are “guides” or metal elbows that can accompany the curve of the pipe without risking damaging it. Check with your supplier.
Once you have positioned the pipes, fix them to the ground with suitable clamps so as not to damage them. This fixing makes it possible to avoid jolts during large influxes of water.
Attention, it will not be necessary to stretch them too much to leave them a slight amplitude of dilation.
NB: from the distribution point to the collector, you do not have to add a connection to the PER pipes.
Connect the pipes to the manifolds
The pipes arrive in the room where the collectors are located through a hatch at floor level.
First, to attach the pipes to the collectors, close the shut-off valve of those concerned and remove their plugs. Place the pipes at their respective manifolds to identify the length to cut. Then release the sheath of the pipes with a few centimeters of margin then cut the pipe to the right length. Install your fitting and fix it on the manifold, checking the presence of the seal.
